Jerome Bethea Ministry?

I am an actor and have been one for the past seven years. I am also a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ (aka "Yeshua HaMashiach" to my Hebrew-speakers out there!), and I have been committed to Him for almost double my time as an actor. In my career, many people have told me that the acting industry is a “really bad” industry and that there is such a need for believers here. A lot of different lifestyles and beliefs do stereotypically define this field. Some of the stereotypes are true, and some are not. I fully agree that there is a need for believers here, but I would say that there is a need for believers everywhere, especially wherever God has called them to be.

This is where He has called me, and the Lord has used my wife and me in many ways through acting. I have a huge passion for actors and actresses, celebrities, and I guess you could say “artsy people” in general. So many are hurting. I love them like crazy, and there is no greater joy than to share the love of God with them. What I do and where I am is not for everyone, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. But the Lord has equipped me and prepared me to be here. And I must say I love it!

A few months ago I was coming home from our congregation here in Dallas, and I really felt the Lord pressing on my heart, explaining to me how everything I do as an actor is a ministry. When I go on auditions for national print ads and Hollywood movies, it’s very easy to desire a gig or job because it will pay well when I haven’t had a paying gig in four months or because it will open doors to participate in a movie that will impact the world or even because I’d be playing a really cool character. But that day driving home, the Lord brought to my attention that these motives were wrong. I am to desire only His glory, His name to be honored, and I am to trust whatever path He paves for us. There is common sense in having food and money and basic necessities, but I want to get rid of what we teach as common sense and get down to living by faith in true and complete service to Him. He changed my mindset that day to know that I am to go to the Twizzler commercial audition because I love Him and want to glorify Him, not because I love acting and want to get a job. It doesn’t even matter if I get the job. Perhaps someone at the audition will need a smile, ask about the Lord, or tell me a bit about their life so I can pray for them on the way home. It’s not all about my performance but about the needs of others and the mission God has for me that day. He’s my dad and I am wherever I am for Him and representing Him.

That day in the car He put on my heart to have a place on my web page to allow people to become supporters and donate to my ministry. I started bawling, and it took everything I had to explain this to my wife. I don’t cry for much unless the Lord is really pricking my heart and He was pressing it like crazy this day. It was a difficult pride issue for me as a man because a lot of people look at me as an actor and think I’m rolling in the dough. To accept donations is as humbling as it gets. I’ll make a long story short and say that after several months of not adding this page to my site, the Lord has placed us in the belly of the whale and caused us to have to do what He told us to do. And here I am. I praise the Lord for “helping” me to be obedient to what He has commanded, and I pray that if you feel led to give that you would give, and that the Lord would bless you as well. In between gigs we’re also offering ourselves locally for services people might need (cleaning, lawn care, shopping, babysitting, etc.) in exchange for whatever they feel led to give.

If you would like to be part of a prayer chain for my wife and me and this ministry, that would be amazing as well. We are praying that God would “bless me indeed, expand my territory, so that I can be a blessing to the world.”
