Links for Oklahoma Actors

Magna Talent Agency -- the ONLY agent to consider in the Oklahoma City area.  Call them to set up an appointment to discuss representation; however, even if you are not represented by them, their call board lists current acting jobs that you're free to pursue on your own.

Drama Drash--Drama Drash is an acting ministry based in Lawton, OK, always looking for volunteer actors to perform in local churches and film documentaries for the purpose of educating and inspiring Christian believers in the ways of the early church and the Messiah.

The Oklahoma Film Society-- This organization sponsors the annual Real to Reel Workshop in Oklahoma City, and they also maintain "The Can" forum on their website.  This online bulletin board lists various local opportunities and is an opportunity to network with and ask questions of local talent.  Join any and all news groups to get e-mails sent regarding happenings.  Also check out the OKFS links page for lots of trails to go exploring!

Carpenter Square Theater-- Theatre experience is a necessity for good acting.  Casting directors like it too.  Auditions for upcoming shows with this theatre are constantly being updated on this site.

Yellow Rose Theater -- Another local theater company in Oklahoma City, owned and operated by a Christian.  I think they even pay!

Oklahoma City Community College-- This is an awesome film school for actors, directors, and people in every realm of the industry.  Fritz Kiersch, director of Children of the Corn, and Gray Frederickson, producer of The Godfathers, both teach there.  They are very nice, helpful men.  They operate a summer film institutefor three weeks every summer.  Or sign up for a class any time of the year.

Cameron University -- This college in Lawton is known for some good theatre productions. Scott Richard Klein is the director of the theatre arts department.

BareBones International Film Festival -- This film festival is a great opportunity to meet other actors, directors, and film producers.  Bring your resume, business cards, headshots, and NETWORK!  The festival directors Oscar Dean and Shiron Ray are good people to know, and they offer regular workshops to help you advance in your craft.

Links for Every Actor

Craig's List-- Click city, then talent, then gigs.  Ladies, be careful, because this site has quite a few questionable calls mixed in with the good ones.  Know what you will and won't do! (and let me urge you, DON'T DO IT!)

Actors Access -- With this website, you can input your resume, upload some current headshots, and be available for casting directors looking for gigs.  Even better, you can sign up to receive casting calls that match your look and experience.  Good to know what's going on in L.A. (if you don't live there, however, they probably will not call you or take your headshot submissions seriously), but you can also narrow the search to receive calls in cities close to you.

Quotes

"It's not recognized how artists are essentially our spiritual leaders.  They are providing what religion attempts to provide.  We dearly hope that they will entertain us and give us light and show us the way."  - Dr. Robert Maurer

"I am the light of the world."   - Jesus Christ

"If you have a dream...fight for it. If it comes true... thank God for it. If it doesn't... be proud you fought your best." -Brett Bower, Actor/Director, Oklahoma native

"Actors don't act."  - Unknown

"...if you give away the fact that you know what's coming next, it gives an effect of memorization or gabbling.  You must try to empty your minds of the next phrase before it comes, and then place it accurately in the next position as it follows... Somehow it must be so carefully rehearsed that the thoughts are ready to come into your mind before the words so that you sow the speech behind your thought, so that it doesn't appear glib -- then it will somehow seem to have a freshness." - John Gielgud directing Richard Burton in Hamlet

"The good actor doesn't ask how he's going to deliver a line, he asks why." - Unknown

"All communication is intended to persuade." - Unknown

"Finally, in your auditions and acting work, find tragedy in the comedy and humor in the drama." - Tony Shepherd

"You can't copy anybody and end with anything.  If you copy, it means you're working without any real feeling.  No two people are alike, and it's got to be that way in music or it isn't music."  - Billie Holiday

"All of us are watchers -- of television, of time clocks, of traffic on the freeway -- but few are observers.  Everyone is looking, not many are seeing."  - Peter M. Leschak

"There is no reality in the absence of observation." - The Copenhagen Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics

"This, then, is salvation: when we marvel at the beauty of created things and praise their beautiful creator." - Meister Eckhart

"Don't act afraid.  Be afraid.  Want to act afraid, go to sixth grade. Want to be afraid, go to the movies."
           "Show, don't tell."
"Silence is good."
          "Magic happens with mistakes."

"Say it low, say it slow." - John Wayne

"I can stand up here, be cocky, and feel real cool.  I can even do some fancy kicks and impress because of that, but to stand up here and express myself, wholly and truthfully, open and honest, that, my friend, is very hard to do."  - Bruce Lee

"They look at you because you are your own material.  This may feel intrusive, but this is what makes this different.  If you bring your own experience to the role, you avoid resorting to cliches and you make possible an interpretation that has originality and humanity, and is yours." - Unknown

"Eyes are the windows to the soul.  Be your character so much that your soul is your character." - Jerome Bethea
